A four-day road trip: Portland to the coast at Cannon Beach, down the Oregon Coast to Cape Perpetua, then inland to Crater Lake, stopping at Silver Falls on the drive back. I loved the driving, and the exercise that comes with the hikes, but the views themselves were just alright. Maybe I'm not a big nature person.

The lake fills the crater left when Mount Mazama erupted and collapsed about 7,700 years ago. At 1,943 feet deep, it's the deepest lake in the United States. Wizard Island, a smaller volcanic cone, rises out of the water.
Silver Falls State Park, on the drive back north. The trail goes right behind South Falls, which drops 177 feet.
